Candy Cane Cookies

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 1/2 cups soft butter
  • 1 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 egg
  • ? red food coloring
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp peppermint extract

Directions

Cream butter and sugar. Stir in egg and vanilla. Mix in flour and salt. Set aside 1/2 of dough. Knead in red food color and peppermint extract. Chill dough for at least 1 hour.

On lightly floured surface, roll balls of dough into 4 inch ropes and make canes by twisting together ropes of white and red dough.

Bake at 375 on ungreased sheets for 10 minutes
